ABOUT
VASSOS DEMETRIOU
Vassos Demetriou was born in 1954 in Famagusta, Cyprus. He studied ceramics at the "Instituto d'Arte per la Ceramica" in Faenza, Italy from 1978 to 1981.
He has developed a deep practice, research, and visual engagement into how Cypriot soil and stones, are interpreted into expressive materiality through clay, glazes, terra sigillata, and alternative firing techniques. This materiality bears notions and ideas about place, space, time, and perception. Consequently, it becomes both means and intricate form(s) to investigate concepts concerning identity as a fluid, open-ended notion - that spins and develops around the cultural and geopolitical exchange.
